50 years of Schaubühne

2012 was a very special year for us: The Schaubühne celebrated its 50th year. Founded on the 21st of September, 1962 by a group of young theater enthusiasts, as a private theater with a political and socially committed agenda, we have been performing for nearly five decades in Berlin and throughout the world.

2012 has particular resonance for our theater as, after fifty years, founding director Jürgen Schitthelm took leave of active involvement in Schaubühne and put his life's work into the hands of artistic director Thomas Ostermeier, director Friedrich Barner and deputy director Tobias Veit - truly a momentous occasion!
