After the artistic directors Thomas Ostermeier, Sasha Waltz, Jens Hillje and Jochen Sandig had initiated a new start at the Schaubühne, a circle of people with a passionate interest in the theatre emerged to offer the new team ideal and financial support for its concept. The 20 founding members in January 2000 have now extended to a circle of c. 180 people of different ages, origins and social stations – united in a desire to promote the current artistic positions at the Schaubühne.Activities
In cooperation with the direction of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, the Freundeskreis offers its members numerous opportunities to experience the theatre, its art and artists “close-up", but also to provide ideal and financial support. Visits to rehearsals, workshop discussions and artists’ discussions take place on a regular basis. The Schaubühne experiences concrete sponsorship through the financial involvement of the Freundeskreis in the Festival International New Drama F.I.N.D. and the choreography workshop. In 2004, the Freundeskreis also accompanied the ensemble to its guest performance at the Festival d´Avignon, 2007 at the Festival of Salzburg (Premiere of »Moliere«) and 2008 one more time at the Festival d´Avignon (Premiere of »Hamlet«).Statute
